$1000 Mg wheels ????

So they are made in the Detriot area. Surely someone can find out if they are real. I find this VERY hard to believe.

Re: $1000 Mg wheels ????

Here is their response:

Thanks for checking us out. Our wheels compare favorably with Marchesini forged magnesium and are superior to any diecasting process.
We have a finished weight with bearings and spacers for the front of 6.43lbs and rear of 10.44lbs with cush drive assembly and sprocket carrier, but w/o sprocket.
We surveyed the M/C wheel repair shops around the country and found that they had a 3:1 ratio of front wheel repairs to rear, so we beefed up the front considerably to insure a bulletproof design that tested to exceptional durabilty. (1000 lbs load at 230mph for 5000 miles without incident!)
Below is a chart I found online from a BST outlet. I cannot authenticate it so take it for what it is worth, but I added our info at the bottom for comparison. (FYI, I believe that Marchesini's new forged wheel is 5.99lbs, so I am not sure where they got their data.)
We will be able to provide wheels for your 2000 RC51, but not until mid May.

From Chart:

Comparative Weight and Moment of Inertia (MoI)
Front Rear MoI Front MoI Rear
lbs lbs. inē inē
BST 5.50 10.38 217 304
Marchesini

Re: $1000 Mg wheels ????

Very interesting and they sound real (or good story at least). I would still have questions on spacers and sprockets but if they pan out I might have to get a set for the RC The MOI is nice though as he points out the Marchesini has dropped in weight (that is the old versions weight) and likely MOI. Further Marvic now has a forged unit, though I don't think they fit RCs.

So the prize for defeating the French can be a new set of RC rims

Re: $1000 Mg wheels ????

I sent him and email and below is his response.

Okay "wf_engineering",(No name provided, so I do not know how to address youmy Man.)We do have fitment for your 2004 CBR1000RR and theyare killer Street wheels at race weight. We are in Detroit...We invented the pothole. Thesebad boys are tested to withstand an amazing amount ofabuse. It is virtually impossible to crack theserims. Unlike aluminum or diecast magnesium, with thisalloy of magnesium and the way it is made, the wheelswill first bend under a severe pothole (Like a 8" deep1 ft diameter at 60mph). If YOU survive that, it is ahigh probability that you can take a propane torch youbuy at Home Depot, warm the rim, and take a plasticmallot to it to bend it back.Cost is $1098/set with free magnesium hub upgrade fora limited time (a $198 value). 6% sales tax if inMichigan.Weight is 6.4 lbs front and 10.4 lbs rear withbearings and spacers. Better than all but carbonfiber.Hope this helps,Sheryar Durrani

Re: $1000 Mg wheels ????

"I was just looking at your website, and was wondering if you had plans to offer wheels for the Honda RC30/RC45?"

The reply:

"Most definitely Brian.

And thanks for taking the timet to see what is possible when the heart and soul lead the mind to infinity...

We begin taking orders on April 17th for the RC30/RC45 and you can expect about 4 week delivery as we are understandably swamped with orders...

Regards,

Sheryar Durrani"

They are real. I have been working with the engineer on this project for a few months now. Oh jeez... I have a feeling I'm going to inundated with with mail and phone calls now.

To be honest, I had planned on posting some info about these here, but was waiting for testing to be complete. I can tell you that the engineer that is behind this project is brilliant with magnesium. These wheels will be DOT approved and perfectly safe for use on... yes, even Michigan roads.

I had painted prototypes at my house last week. They look friggin killer !

Understandably, there are certain details about this project I'm not at liberty to talk about yet, so please spare me the "I wanna tour the plant" remarks for now. Rest assured, they are being manufactured in Michigan. Anything related to application, test results, specifications, price, etc., I will be more than happy to answer.

Did I say they look friggin' KILLER !?!?!?!?
